Chant West is a specialist superannuation research and consultancy firm. Established in 1997, our firm is independent and wholly owned by its two principals, Warren Chant and Andrea West.

The firm holds an Australian Financial Services Licence (No.255320).

In addition to our commercial activities, Chant West contributes extensively to the development of better practices that will eventually lead to better and fairer super for all.

Contributions to date have included:

• Research into fee disclosure conducted jointly with the Australian Superannuation Funds Association, which resulted in key issues of public importance being identified and addressed.
• Contribution to parliamentary debate on fee disclosure via the Senate Select Committee on Superannuation.
• Research on behalf of the Investment and Financial Services Association into death & disability insurance premiums, and into the features & services provided by funds.
• Numerous presentations to industry conferences and debate forums.

Our firm was founded by Warren Chant and Andrea West.

Warren has over 30 years experience in the financial services industry, spanning the fields of accountancy, corporate finance, funds management and superannuation. Andrea has over 20 years experience in funds management and superannuation.

The principals are supported by a dedicated team that includes specialists in investment, financial analysis, information technology, communications and design.

Part of our business is to provide consulting advice to organisations about their super funds, including advice on outsourcing services to specialised suppliers. We also advise organisations on choosing an asset consultant or implemented consultant for their investment portfolio.

Among the organisations we have advised are AMP, ANZ, BHP, Boral, Coles Myer, CSR, First State Super, George Weston Foods, Guild, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Leighton, Lend Lease, OneSteel, Orica, Qantas, St. George, State Super NSW, Thiess, Westpac Staff Super, WMC Resources, WorkCover NSW and Xstrata.

We provide research tools for advisers and dealer groups to assist them in providing a quality service to their clients as well as meeting their compliance obligations.

Chant West’s CorporateSuper, PersonalSuper and Pension research, together with our Super and Pension AppleCheck, allow advisers to research and compare a wide range of super and pension products including industry funds, corporate funds, personal funds and public sector funds.

We are a leader in superannuation, pension and multi-manager research, with about one in three advisers in Australia now having access to Chant West research.

Initially, Chant West’s business was to provide independent research and consultancy services to companies and institutions to help them make well-informed decisions about their super funds.

In June 2005, we made our research accessible to individuals. We publish our PersonalSuper and Pension Ratings, which encapsulate our views on the merits of a broad spectrum of super and pension products that are available to individuals. We also provide fund comparisons via our online AppleCheck service that makes it simple to compare super and pension funds on a fair and strictly ‘apples with apples’ basis.
