Comprehensive super fund data at your fingertips

Whether you're looking to conduct in-depth competitor research and peer group comparisons, or bolster your board and investment committee papers, Chant West’s industry surveys provide access to the latest, detailed information on investment performance, insurance premiums, fees and asset allocation for the majority of super and pension funds in the Australian market.

Our team of respected analysts have a deep understanding of super funds’ investment portfolios which means they're well positioned to interrogate the data collected from survey participants to ensure accuracy and integrity in all our surveys.

Our surveys are provided in PDF and Excel format which enables easy extraction of the underlying data for bespoke analysis and reporting.

Investment-related survey subscriptions

Super Fund Performance Survey

Available as a monthly or quarterly subscription, our Super Fund Performance Survey provides peer group performance comparisons covering all major super funds across the MySuper default and main Choice option categories.

The quarterly survey editions include research papers on various super-related matters.

Additional services such as underlying historical monthly return data for all investment options in the survey and custom time periods are available as add-ons for more detailed insights.

We've also launched a new MySuper Age-Based Performance Survey that tracks the lived experience of representative fund members of selected ages, comparing both lifecycle and single option MySuper products.

Asset Allocation Surveys

Our Strategic and Actual Asset Allocation Surveys provide peer group asset allocation comparisons for all major super funds across the main risk categories and lifecycle strategies and are available as a quarterly or semi-annual subscription.

Collectively, the surveys provide valuable insight into peers’ portfolio positioning including dynamic asset allocation decisions, and inform peer-relative performance attribution analysis.

These market-leading surveys are highly regarded for the level of granularity shown, with asset allocations split across more than 25 asset classes and sub-asset classes including exposures to key unlisted and alternative asset classes.

The surveys have been used by various consulting firms and fund managers to support their research efforts.

Other survey subscriptions

Super & Pension Fund Fee Surveys

The quarterly Super Fund Fee Survey provides an in-depth analysis of the fees and costs of the largest super funds in Australia, including both MySuper products and diversified choice options, across industry funds, public sector funds, corporate funds, master trusts and wrap accounts.

The survey shows administration and investment fees and costs (including transaction costs) across a range of account balances, with averages by segment. It also details any fee changes since the previous quarter and for MySuper products, it shows the underlying fee structure for each product .

A similar survey shows the fees and costs for Pension products and as there's no MySuper, it includes a table comparing the super and pension fee structures for each product.

Super Fund Insurance Premium Survey & Newsletter

The quarterly Super Fund Insurance Premium Survey provides an in-depth analysis of the group insurance* premiums and default covers of the largest super funds in Australia across industry funds, public sector funds, corporate funds and master trusts.

Insurance premiums and default covers are shown at various ages for male or female, white- or blue-collar members for Death cover, Death & TPD cover and a range of Income Protection waiting periods and benefit periods. It also shows our insurance premium indices for each cover type as well as by gender, occupation and age band.

Our proprietary premium indices illustrate how each fund’s premiums compare with the median fund. Finally, the survey also details all premium changes over the last quarter and subscribers also receive a separate monthly newsletter that details all premium and feature changes over the quarter.

*the survey does not cover retail insurance arrangements.
